To install directly the update, run the command: To perform the installation staging first then remediating the update, run the commands:Ĭommand> software-packages install -staged Mounted the ISO file, using a tool like PuTTY login to the VCSA via SSH.īefore running the update, check from the VCSA console the current version: 6.0.0. When the download of the patch is complete, the ISO file must be connected to the VCSA.įrom the vSphere Web Client, select the VCSA 6.0 VM and click Launch Remote Console link.įrom VMRC menu select Removable Devices > CD/DVD drive 1 > Connect to Disk Image File (iso) option. No GUI is available to manage VCSA therefore the only way to apply the patch is through the CLI commands. Select the patch to download then click on Download button. How to apply new patches and updates to the appliance?įirst step is the download of new patches from VMware Patch Download Center selecting VC and 6.0.0 version from the drop-down menu. The new VCSA 6.0 offers almost same features of Windows based vCenter Server with the exception of vSphere Update Manager that needs to be installed in a Windows box. You'll just have to work out some kind off off-server VM level backup instead of using a mirror or raid5.Compared to previous version, patching or updating VCSA 6.0 is a little bit different and is not performed directly from Internet. If you don't mind that, then you can run vSphere on this server for what it's worth. Vsphere 6 does install on this server, the NIC works but the drives will show up as individuals. It supports both the BIOS RAID and the NIC no questions asked. The NIC also didn't work on 5.5 but it seems that at least with the Dell version of vsphere 6, it has the NIC drivers pre-installed.īut after putting time/effort into working around both of these issues, I ultimately decided to install Hyper-V 12 instead which is also free. I believe you need to download the Dell customized version of VMWare from Dell directly to get the correct drivers for the Intel Rapid Storage Controller v12.xīit of an edit here, so the Dell version of vsphere 6 doesn't work with the built in BIOS raid either so only way to get RAID to work is to go buy a RAID controller. ![]()
